Villa 4-0 Ajax: Villa Europe in the Conference League quarter-finals

Cheap Aston Villa Football Shirts captain John McGinn is hoping for more memorable European nights after leading his club to the quarter-finals of the European Conference League.

Villa beat four-time European champions Ajax 4-0 at home to reach the last eight in a major European competition for the first time since 1998.

“We want to achieve more, McGinn said. “We have given the fans one to remember, but we don’t want to stop there.

“It’s there [among his best nights] and we didn’t want the journey to end.”

Halvat Ollie Watkins jalkapallopaidat gave Villa the lead and Leon Bailey made it 2-0, before visiting midfielder Sivert Mannsverk was sent off for two bookable offences. Jhon Duran and Moussa Diaby added further goals to seal victory for the home side.

Emery downplays fears of Watkins injury

Watkins, who has scored three goals in nine England matches, was named in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad on Thursday for friendlies against Brazil on 23 March and Belgium three days later, both matches to be played at Wembley.

The striker is Villa’s top scorer with 22 goals in all competitions this season, but he suffered an injury after slipping to challenge Ajax goalkeeper Diant Ramaj and required lengthy treatment and heavy bandages on his left leg, where a cut wound was the cause.

However, Watkins still managed to rise brilliantly to meet Douglas Luiz’s corner from the right and smash in a header for his first of four goals.

Bailey had to help him off the pitch in the 33rd minute, and the Englishman went straight into the tunnel to receive medical attention.

Emery said: Emery: “We don’t know exactly what [the problem] is. It’s surgery, maybe on Sunday he could be available but we’ll have to wait.”

Bailey, however, sounded less optimistic when he said: “It looked really bad when I saw it, an open wound.”

Villa to play in the Premier League on Sunday Halvat West Ham United jalkapallopaidat at home before England’s two matches, which are vital preparation for the European Championships in three months’ time.

For Villa, fourth in the Premier League, this result is the continuation of a remarkable turnaround since Emery replaced the sacked Steven Gerrard last season, when the club were just outside the play-offs on goal difference.

“We are happy, it was very important,” the Spaniard added. “We tried to connect with the supporters. After the [goalless] first leg we analysed with the players and we had to play better than we did there.”

‘We were beaten quite easily’ – Henderson

Ajax captain Jordan Henderson, who was also selected for the England national team, said: “We were beaten quite easily in the end, which is disappointing.

“I felt we were in the game at the end of the first half. We got a second goal which was poor from us and it’s always difficult at that stage. When you’re down to 10 men, it’s very difficult to come back against a good team. Injuries and everything started to go wrong.

“If we had held on to the 1-0 goal for longer we could have hurt them, but in the end we lost clearly. Villa are a good team.”

Ajax head coach John van’t Schip added: “In the first half we were still very much in the game and almost got an equaliser through [Brian] Brobbey.

“But when decisions don’t go your way, and tonight there were a few in our favour, it’s impossible for us, especially after a red card. It’s incredibly disappointing; my expectations were high.”
